Because of our own unique natural lashes, everyone has different eyelash extension needs.
When choosing the right volume lash extensions, you will need to consider the thickness and length of your natural lashes.
Keep in mind that if your lashes are chosen and applied properly, your natural lashes will be in good condition, which means you will never need to take a break from wearing them.
But there is more you should know.
Do Lash Extensions Cause Damage to Your Natural Lashes?
Your lashes will be in great shape, as already mentioned if they have been chosen and applied correctly. However, if you feel uncomfortable with them because of previous experiences, here are 2 main reasons you need to know why:
1. Too Much Weight on Your Natural Lashes
When you are choosing lashes for a volume set, you want to keep lash diameter in mind. (The diameter is the width of the lash). The higher the diameter, the thicker and heavier an extension is.
We need to take into account how much volume they need in terms of lash coverage, but also an appropriate lash weight for their natural lashes.
Adding too much weight could cause more harm than you may think. The natural lashes might get pulled out with the lash root, which once damaged will not grow back.
Remember too much glue adds lots of weight to the lash set as well.
2. Inappropriate Isolation
Lash artists use 2 tweezers during this procedure. One is for applying the eyelash extensions to natural lashes, and another is an isolation tweezer that is used to separate the client’s lashes.
If lashes aren’t separated properly, the natural shedding process is interrupted. Each natural lash hair has its individual lifespan. If the lash extension is glued to not one, but two or more natural lashes, the one that sheds first will take the other one down as well.
Not only the lash extensions would not look or feel good. But will cause damaging the hair follicle, which could take months to recover, if at all.
That is why it is important to be sure to go to a certified lash artist who knows how to do lashes correctly. Nobody wants to lose their natural eyelashes from a bad application.
Are Russian Volume Better than Classic?
Many people have this misconception that classic lashes are lighter than Russian volume lashes.
So here is the difference:
Classic lash extensions are applied using a one-to-one ratio. One lash extension to one natural lash. They add length and curl and are ideal for clients who have lots of natural lashes and want to add more length.
Since only one lash extension is applied to each natural lash, the appropriate diameter can be higher than the thinner diameters of lash extensions used in Russian volume lashing. I recommend between 0.10 to 0.12. Only if a client has really strong natural lashes 0.15 can be used. And 0.20 is best for training purposes on a training head.
If you want their lashes not to just accentuate their eyes, but also look glamorous. That is when Russian Volume lashes may be a good option, which can be tailored for any kind of natural lashes, and that technique gives a lot of space to create the look you may want.
Most people think volume lashes will not be the best fit for a natural look. But believe it or not, they are not necessarily heavier and darker than classic lashes.
Russian volume lashes are thinner and softer lash extensions made into fans that consist of anywhere from 2 to 10 lashes per fan. Each fan is applied to one individual natural lash. So, instead of having a single extension for every single natural lash, there might be several times the number of thin extensions for the number of natural lashes you have.
Since volume lashes contain 2 to 10 lashes per fan, you want to use lashes with much smaller diameters. Appropriate diameters for volume lashes are between 0.04 to 0.07. The diameter you use, and how many lashes are in each fan you use, will be determined by your natural lashes and the desired look.
When getting a classic lash set a 0.10 – 0.12 lash is applied to 1 natural lash. With volume lashes (2 or more) 0.05 – 0.07 lashes are applied to 1 natural lash. There is the air between lashes in fans this is why volume lashes are surprisingly softer and lighter than classic ones. A lot less glue is used during the volume technique so you don’t feel any weight on your eyes at all. You just see beautiful fluffy lashes.
Which Lash Extensions is Best for You?
Classic Lashes add length and curl so they are ideal for clients who have lots of natural lashes and want to add more length.
Russian Volume lashes, on the other hand, could be described in many ways.
If two eyelash extensions are applied to one natural lash it’s described as 2D. If three eyelash extensions are applied to one natural eyelash then it’s described as 3D, and so on.
If you have thin and sparse lashes, I would suggest you a 2D or 3D. I will determine the best thickness for your natural lash as well, based on your natural lashes and your needs.
If you have very thin sparse lashes, and you want a glamorous look and density in the eyelash line, classic lashes will do nothing other than damaging your natural lashes. Since your natural lashes are not strong enough to hold heavy volume, the solution will be to pick 3D volume lashes. For example, using very thin lashes like 0.06.
If you have a full line of natural lashes and want a natural look, in some cases even a 2D could be too much when using 0.10. Instead, look for 0.07 to achieve a safer look.
Take into consideration that the result can differ depending on many things, and it is for me as a professional to tailor a lash set individually for each client, taking into consideration the condition and health of my clients’ lashes.
I have been doing lashes for more than 4 years now. Started doing some basic classic lashes courses, but ended up enjoying it so much that I took an advanced technique for Russian Volume. And since then I never stopped learning more about lashes.
My knowledge and skills motivated me to take part in the International Online Lash & Brow Championships “Looks Formula”, in December 2019 – February 2020, and I was thrilled to win second place in both the “Classic” and Aesthetic Volume” categories.
I continue to take additional training with some of the best specialists within the world to provide you the best style using my expanded skills and knowledge.
Regardless of the technique I use, you will finish with your desired look and set which is elegant and safe for you to have.
